Composer Notes: The first movement, Quinque, is a serial work, the structure of which alternates between high organizational density and aleatoric “controlled improvisation”. The second movement, Cortege, is an introspective contrast to the serial nature of the first movement. The third movement, Rondo Burlesque, reveals a playful rhythmic and motivic interplay and emphasizes rapid multi-tonguing.
